There are many other benefits to reading the Bible, but the last one we want to point out is being washed. Ephesians 5:26 says that Jesus cleanses us, his bride, with the washing of water by the word. What does this mean? Well, think about when you take a shower or wash your hands. How do you feel before and after? Before you clean yourself you feel dirty, maybe grimy, and possibly disgusting and smelly; but after you clean, you feel fresh, pure, and new. There is nothing like feeling clean. This is exactly what happens to us as we read the Bible, except it is not happening to our bodies but rather our spirit, soul, and mind. Reading the Bible will wash away lies you have been believing, feelings of offense that you have picked up, and any other ungodly thing. The Bible will make your spirit, soul, and mind feel clean, fresh, pure, and new. This specifically tends to happen when you read a lot of the Bible at once, but will happen anyway you choose to read.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, it might not look like anything is happening initially when you read the Bible. That is ok, the Word starts in you as a seed and as you continue to read, it gets watered. Then you will begin to see these eight elements happen in your life. Some will happen quickly, some will take more time, that is natural, be patient and keep reading day after day.
