On this 30 day journey, our main hope is to help you establish a habit of reading the Bible every day. In addition, we want to give you a basic understanding of what the Bible is, how it is laid out, what happens as you read it, a few practical ways to read it, benefits of reading it, and some foundational truth. We will start with what the Bible is and one method of how to read it.
The first thing that we want to establish is that the Bible is the Word of God and it is true. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable…” Scripture is another word used for the writings in the Bible. Jesus used the word scripture when referring to the Old Testament passages He would quote and the New Testament writers also use it in reference to the different parts of the New Testament. (2 Peter 1:20, 2 Peter 3:2, 15-16). Therefore ALL scripture, which is the whole of the Bible, is given by inspiration of God. This means that while man did put the words down on paper, the words are actually God’s words. Therefore, the whole Bible is the Word of God.
Because all of the Bible is the Word of God, we can trust that it is true. Hebrews 6:18 says that it is impossible for God to lie. In addition, Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie”. Furthermore, in John 8:31-32, Jesus says, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Here Jesus is saying by continually reading and meditating on His Words, you will know the truth. Therefore, what He says must be true.
As you start your Bible reading journey today, you can be assured that what you are reading is God speaking and what He is saying is true.
Method #1 for Bible Reading
1- Before you read the Bible, pause for a minute and pray. Ask God to speak to you and to increase your love for Him and your knowledge of Him as you read.
2- Today as you read, just sit down with a highlighter or pen and highlight or underline the verses that stick out to you.
3- When you are finished reading, pray those verses back to God.
